If you are tired of relying on glasses or contact lenses to see clearly, it might be time to consider bladeless LASIK surgery in Durango, Colorado, at Four Corners Eye Clinic. Our corneal specialist, board-certified ophthalmologist Dr. Linda Rose, is excited to bring this life-changing procedure for men and women who want to live life more freely and more comfortably.
What Is LASIK Eye Surgery?
LASIK surgery corrects common vision problems by reshaping the clear front surface of the eye called the cornea. The cornea helps focus incoming light to create an image on the retina—helping us see the world around us. At our clinic, LASIK is performed with state-of-the-art medical lasers—without the use of a blade—for fast, accurate, customized procedures. The LASIK procedure can be performed on both eyes in a single surgery.
What Does LASIK Surgery Treat?
LASIK surgery does not correct every type of vision problem, but in many cases it can correct:
- Nearsightedness (myopia)
- Farsightedness (hyperopia)
Who Is a Candidate for LASIK Surgery?
This elective surgery is not right for everyone. In general, good candidates are those who have not had changes in their prescription for at least a year and are:
- At least 18 years old
- In good health
- Free from cataracts, glaucoma, and other types of eye disease
- Not pregnant
The best way to find out if LASIK is right for you is to have an in-depth LASIK consultation with Dr. Rose.
Why Choose Four Corners Eye Clinic for LASIK?
At our clinic, LASIK procedures are performed by board-certified ophthalmologist Dr. Linda Rose. She completed a corneal fellowship at Johns Hopkins University’s Wilmer Eye Institute and is the first fellowship-trained corneal specialist in the Durango area. With more than 12 years of surgical experience and a genuinely caring personality, Dr. Rose offers patients the reassurance of a safe, rewarding LASIK procedure.
What Happens During LASIK Surgery?
Dr. Rose performs LASIK surgery at the fully accredited Animas Surgical Hospital. Before the procedure, you may be given medication to help you relax and numbing drops placed in your eyes to prevent discomfort. We use a special device to keep the eyes from closing, so there’s no need to worry about blinking.
The doctor begins the surgery by creating a thin, circular flap on the surface of the cornea using a computer-guided femtosecond laser for enhanced precision. She then reshapes the underlying layer of the cornea to predetermined specifications using an excimer laser. Once complete, the flap is smoothed down over the eye and will heal naturally without stiches or bandages. The doctor then repeats the procedure on the second eye. In certain cases, LASIK may be performed on just one eye.
What Is Recovery Like After LASIK Surgery?
While you will need to have someone drive you home after surgery, LASIK recovery is usually quick and easy. It’s normal for the eyes to burn, sting, be watery, and feel sensitive to light for the first few hours, so we recommend you take a nap when you get home. Most patients have improved vision right after surgery and experience continued improvement over the next few days.
